Roberto R. Muñoz brings more than 40 years of financial experience to his leadership role as President of The Global Financial Group LLC, specializing in working with High-Net-Worth individuals and Small to Medium sized companies to improve market targeting, key performance indicators, strategic planning and execution strategies. Most recently, he served as President of the Miami Market for Commercial Banking and Wealth Management at First Horizon Bank headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee and previously as Commercial Banking and Wealth Management Team Leader for South Florida for Synovus Bank.  

Mr. Munoz has extensive experience covering the State of Florida in areas of commercial banking including large corporate, middle market and institutional lending, as well as, wealth and treasury management services. Mr. Muñoz has held executive positions with BBVA Bank (President, South and South West Florida Market), Professional Bank (CLO and Senior EVP), Marquis Bank (CEO, President, CLO, and Voting Member of the BofD), Regions Bank (Senior Managing Director and Senior Sales Manager), Israel Discount Bank (CLO and SVP for Florida), Mizuho Bank (SVP and Chief Representative), and Barclays Capital, PLC. He began his career with Bank of America. 

Civic roles include chair-elect of the Board and chair of the nominating committee of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce; president-elect of the Board of the South Florida Council, Scouts of America and chair of the Distinguished Citizens Award Committee; founding chair of the Advisory Board for the Center for International Trade Development; executive board member of the Miami-Dade Beacon Council; 2020 and 2019 chairman of the World Trade Center Miami; and 2014 chairman and president of the Florida International Bankers Association. He also serves on the executive board of The Center for Financial Training International; the advisory board of the Center for Leadership at Florida International University; the advisory board of the Tibor and Sheila Hollo School of Real Estate at Florida International University; the board of the Florida Alternative Investment Association; and holds the keys to Miami-Dade County, the City of Miami, North Bay Village, the Zoo Miami Foundation and holds various Certificates of Appreciation from the City of Miami and Miami-Dade County for service to the community. 

In the community, Mr. Muñoz is a board member of the Chapman Partnership for the Homeless, a trustee board member of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of South Florida, and member of the Florida International University Presidents Council. He has received numerous awards and recognitions including the “Distinguished Chairman” award from the World Trade Center Miami in December 2020, the “Champion of Conservation” award by the Miami Zoo Foundation in September 2020, induction in the Marquis “Who’s Who in America” distinction in July 2020, the “Lifetime Achievement” award and induction into the “Second Century Society” by the South Florida Council, Scouts of America in December 2019. He received the “Public Service and Captain of Industry” award in Global Trade and Banking from the CSC, Triple C Organization in July 2019 as part of the United Nations Public Service Day initiative. Mr. Muñoz received the 2019 “Diamond Circle” award for Leadership and Management from First Horizon Bank in February 2020. He was twice named “The Achiever” by The Miami Today newspaper in February 2020 and in May 2014, and received the “Banker of the Year” award from the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in March 2020.

  • Received the NASBITE International “Advancing International Trade” Award for the State of Florida in June 2020.
  • Presented the “The Gold Medal” Award for community service by Miami Today in May 2020.
  • Appointed as an Honorable “Kentucky Colonel” in April 2020 by the Governor of Kentucky, Honorable Andrew G. Beshear.
  • Recipient of the 2019 “Distinguished Citizen” Award, from the South Florida Council, Scouts of America.
  • Recipient of the 2018 “Silver Beaver” Award, from the South Florida Council, Scouts of America.
  • Named to the “WACE Co-Op, Hall of Fame” in 2017 by Dr. Eduardo Padron, president of Miami Dade College.
  • Awarded the “Distinguished Alumni Torch” Award in 2017 by Dr. M. Rosenberg, president of Florida International University.
  • Named “Company of the Year” by the Spain-U.S. Chamber of Commerce in 2016 as treasurer and executive board member.
  • Inducted into the Miami Dade College “Hall of Fame” in Banking and Finance in 2016 by Dr. Eduardo Padron, president.
  • Honored with the “Florida Business Ambassador” Award in 2015 by the Governor of Florida, Honorable Rick Scott.
  • Named “Best of Miami” in the area of International Banking and Finance by Miami Today in 2015.
  • Received the 2016 “Corporate Executive Philanthropist of the Year” Award by Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of South Florida, the inaugural “Philanthropist of the Year” Award in 2015; and was named “Man of the Year” in 2011.
  • Received “The Hispanic Heritage Good Scout” Award in 2014 by South Florida Council, Scouts of America.
  • Received the 12th Annual “International Banking and Finance” Award” by The Miami-Dade Beacon Council in 2014.
  • Graduated from The Center for Leadership at Florida International University “Senior Executive Leaders” program in 2013 and voted “Class President and Valedictorian” by his CEO level peer group.
  • Named founding board member and vice-chair of the “Florida Film and Television Investment Board” by the Governor of Florida, Honorable Lawton Chiles and Secretary of State, James Smith and appointed to this Cabinet level State position from 1993-1997. 

He earned his BA in finance and international relations from FIU, an AA degree from Miami-Dade College, and his High School diploma from Miami Springs Senior High. He also holds numerous diplomas and certificates in the field of banking. He and his wife, Teresa have five children, and were named “Parents of the Year” by the Miami-Dade Public Schools in 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017 and 2016. In addition to spending time with his family, Mr. Muñoz loves to cook, travel and enjoy the world’s many cultures. He is fluent in English and Spanish and maintains a 30,000 global LinkedIn contact base.
